  Anastasios of Antioch

  Hierarch, Αναστάσιος

  St. Anastasios was Patriarch of Antioch in the sixth century, a theologian and ascetic who shepherded one of the great sees of the East in a turbulent age. Standing firm for the Orthodox teaching on the Incarnation against imperial pressure, he was driven from his throne and endured long years of exile before being restored to his flock.

• Januarius of Benevento and his companions

  Hierarch, Ιανουάριος ο Ιερομάρτυς

  Januarius was Bishop of Benevento in Italy at the time of the persecution of Diocletian. Visiting his deacon Sosius in prison, he was himself arrested with the deacons Proculus and Faustus and others.

• Alexandra the Empress

  Holy Woman, Αλεξάνδρα η Βασίλισσα

  Alexandra was, according to tradition, the wife of the emperor Diocletian. Witnessing the tortures of the Great Martyr George and the wonders wrought through him, she openly declared herself a Christian before her husband.

• Maximian of Constantinople

  Hierarch, Μαξιμιανός Πατριάρχης Κωνσταντινουπόλεως

  Maximian was a priest of Constantinople known for his charity, who had used his wealth to build tombs for the poor. After Nestorius was condemned at the Third Ecumenical Council he was chosen patriarch in his place.

• Anastasios the Sinaite

  Venerable, Αναστάσιος ο Σιναΐτης

  Anastasios was a monk and later abbot of the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai in the seventh century. He travelled widely in Egypt and Syria disputing with heretics and wrote works of theology and spiritual guidance.
