Anastasios the Sinaite

Venerable Anastasios the Sinaite, abbot of Mount Sinai and defender of the faith.

Anastasios was a monk and later abbot of the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai in the seventh century. He travelled widely in Egypt and Syria disputing with heretics and wrote works of theology and spiritual guidance.

He reposed in peace at an advanced age.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anastasios the Sinaite is commemorated on April 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 4 of the civil calendar.
