Maximian of Constantinople

Saint Maximian, Patriarch of Constantinople, successor of the deposed Nestorius.

Maximian was a priest of Constantinople known for his charity, who had used his wealth to build tombs for the poor. After Nestorius was condemned at the Third Ecumenical Council he was chosen patriarch in his place.

He governed the Church in peace for a few years and reposed in the fifth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Maximian of Constantinople is commemorated on April 21. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 4 of the civil calendar.
