  Theodore Trichinas

  Venerable, Θεόδωρος

  St. Theodore Trichinas was born in Constantinople and embraced the monastic life in a monastery of the countryside. He is called Trichinas, the hair-shirt wearer, because his only garment throughout his long ascetic struggle was a rough covering of hair, worn in every season as he mortified the flesh through fasting, vigil, and cold.

• Zacchaeus the Apostle

  Apostle, Ζακχαίος ο Απόστολος

  Zacchaeus was the chief tax collector of Jericho who, being short of stature, climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus and was called down to receive Him in his house, where he promised to restore fourfold all he had taken unjustly.

• Athanasios of Meteora

  Venerable, Αθανάσιος ο Μετεωρίτης

  Athanasios was born in Hypate in the fourteenth century and became a monk on Mount Athos. Fleeing pirate raids, he came to the rocks of Meteora in Thessaly, where he climbed the great pillar of stone and founded the Monastery of the Transfiguration, the Great Meteoron.

• Martyrs of Nicomedia converted by Saint George

  Martyr, Βίκτωρ, Ζωτικός, Ακίνδυνος, Καισάριος, Σεβηριανός, Χριστόφορος, Θεωνάς και Αντωνίνος

  These men were witnesses of the sufferings of the Great Martyr George at Nicomedia and, seeing his endurance and the wonders worked through him, believed in Christ and confessed openly before the emperor.

• John of the Old Lavra

  Venerable, Ιωάννης ο Παλαιολαυρίτης

  John was a monk of the Old Lavra founded by Saint Chariton in the Judaean desert. He lived in asceticism and prayer, tradition relates, in the eighth century, and was known for his humility.

• Joasaph of Meteora

  Venerable, Ιωάσαφ ο Μετεωρίτης

  Joasaph was born John Uros, son of the Serbian ruler of Thessaly, and inherited his father's throne while young. Renouncing worldly power, he went up to Meteora and became a disciple of Saint Athanasios, who named him his successor.

• Gabriel of Bialystok

  Martyr, Γαβριήλ ο Μάρτυς

  Gabriel was a child of a peasant family near Bialystok who, tradition relates, was abducted and killed at the age of six in 1690. His body was found some time later and his relics remained incorrupt.
