John of the Old Lavra

Venerable John of the Old Lavra of Saint Chariton in Palestine.

John was a monk of the Old Lavra founded by Saint Chariton in the Judaean desert. He lived in asceticism and prayer, tradition relates, in the eighth century, and was known for his humility.

He reposed in peace in the desert of Palestine.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, John of the Old Lavra is commemorated on April 20. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 3 of the civil calendar.
