Venerable Amphilochios Makris of Patmos, elder and founder of the Convent of the Annunciation.
Amphilochios was born on Patmos in 1889 and became a monk at the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian there, later serving as its abbot. He founded the Convent of the Annunciation on the island and laboured as a spiritual father throughout the Dodecanese, especially during the years of Italian occupation.
He was known for his gentleness, his love of trees and of all creation, and his gift of discernment. He reposed in 1970 and was numbered among the saints in 2018.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Amphilochios of Patmos is commemorated on April 16. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 29 of the civil calendar.
