Michael Mavroudis

Holy New Martyr Michael Mavroudis of Thessaloniki.

St. Michael Mavroudis was born in the village of Granitsa in Agrapha and worked as a baker in Thessaloniki under Ottoman rule. Tradition relates that he was accused of speaking against Islam while talking with a Turkish child, was brought before the judge and, refusing to renounce Christ, was burned to death in 1544.

He is numbered among the New Martyrs of Thessaloniki, and his memory is kept on March 10.

Michael was born in the Agrapha mountains and worked as a baker in Thessalonica. Tradition relates that a Turkish boy who was fond of him was heard praising Christ, and Michael was accused of leading him from Islam.

He confessed the faith before the judge and was burned alive in Thessalonica in 1544.
