Anastasia the Patrician

Venerable Anastasia the Patrician of Alexandria, who lived as a monk in the desert.

St. Anastasia was a noblewoman of Constantinople in the sixth century who fled the court of the emperor Justinian to escape the jealousy of the empress. She founded a convent near Alexandria, and later, disguised as a eunuch monk, lived for many years in a cave in the desert of Skete under the guidance of Abba Daniel.

Her identity was revealed only at her death. The Church keeps her memory on March 10.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Anastasia the Patrician is commemorated on March 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 23 of the civil calendar.
