  Irene, Agape & Chionia

  Martyr, Ειρήνη

  The holy virgins Agape, Irene, and Chionia were sisters from the region of Thessaloniki who suffered in the year 304, during the persecution of Diocletian. Arrested for their faith and for keeping the holy Scriptures when the emperor had ordered them destroyed, they refused to eat food sacrificed to idols or deny Christ, standing firm through interrogation.

• Chariessa, Nike, Galene and the Women Martyrs of Corinth

  Holy Woman, Χάρισσα, Νίκη, Γαλήνη, Καλλίς, Νουνεχία, Βασίλισσα, Θεοδώρα και Ειρήνη

  These women of Corinth were brought to faith by the preaching of Leonides, Bishop of Athens, and were arrested with him in the persecution of Decius. They refused to deny Christ under torture.

• Michael of Vourla

  Martyr, Μιχαήλ ο Βουρλιώτης

  Michael was a youth from Vourla near Smyrna who, tradition relates, was tricked by Turks into uttering words of conversion while intoxicated. Coming to himself, he refused to accept Islam and boldly declared that he was a Christian.

• Amphilochios of Patmos

  Venerable, Αμφιλόχιος Μακρής

  Amphilochios was born on Patmos in 1889 and became a monk at the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian there, later serving as its abbot. He founded the Convent of the Annunciation on the island and laboured as a spiritual father throughout the Dodecanese, especially during the years of Italian occupation.

• Christopher of Dionysiou

  Martyr, Χριστόφορος ο Οσιομάρτυς

  Christopher was a monk of the Dionysiou Monastery on Mount Athos. Tradition relates that having in his youth outwardly accepted Islam under pressure, he repented, and after monastic preparation returned to confess Christ before the Ottoman judge.

• Michael Mavroudis

  Martyr, Μιχαήλ ο Μαυρουδής

  Michael was born in the Agrapha mountains and worked as a baker in Thessalonica. Tradition relates that a Turkish boy who was fond of him was heard praising Christ, and Michael was accused of leading him from Islam.
