Holy Women Martyrs Chariessa, Nike, Galene, Kalles, Nunechia, Basilissa, Theodora and Irene, drowned at Corinth with Bishop Leonides.
These women of Corinth were brought to faith by the preaching of Leonides, Bishop of Athens, and were arrested with him in the persecution of Decius. They refused to deny Christ under torture.
Tradition relates that they were cast into the sea at Corinth in the third century, and that the Church of Corinth kept their memory with great honour, building a basilica over their tomb.
