Venerable Martyr Anastasios the Persian, a soldier converted by the Precious Cross.
St. Anastasios was a Persian soldier who, tradition relates, was drawn to Christ when the True Cross was carried to Persia after the sack of Jerusalem in 614. Baptized in Jerusalem, he became a monk; returning to Persia he was arrested, tortured, and strangled in 628.
His relics were later brought to Constantinople and Rome. He is commemorated on January 22.
