Timothy the Apostle

Holy Apostle Timothy, disciple of Paul.

St. Timothy the Apostle was the beloved disciple and fellow worker of St. Paul, who called him his true child in the faith. A native of Lystra, born of a Greek father and a devout Jewish mother, he accompanied Paul on his journeys and received from him the two epistles that bear his name. He served as the first Bishop of Ephesus.

According to tradition he ended his life as a martyr in Ephesus, struck down by pagans whose idolatrous festival he had rebuked. He is commemorated on January 22.

On the New Calendar, Timothy the Apostle is commemorated on January 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 4 of the civil calendar.
