The Gospel of Luke relates that Anna, daughter of Phanuel of the tribe of Asher, was a widow of great age who never left the Temple but served God with fasting and prayer night and day.
When the Christ Child was brought to the Temple she gave thanks to God and spoke of Him to all who awaited the redemption of Jerusalem. She is honoured together with the righteous Simeon on the day after the Presentation.

Saint Anna was an aged widow of the tribe of Asher who served God with fasting and prayer in the Temple. The Gospel of Luke relates that she was present when the infant Christ was brought there and spoke of Him to all who awaited the redemption of Jerusalem.
She is honoured with the Righteous Symeon on the feast of the Meeting and again on this day.
