Venerable Antipas of Calapodesti, Athonite and Valaam ascetic.
St. Antipas was born in Moldavia in 1816 and became a monk on Mount Athos, where he lived for years in the Romanian skete of the Forerunner. He later traveled to Russia and settled at the Valaam Monastery, where he lived in strict solitude and prayer.
He reposed in 1882 and is commemorated on January 10.

On the New Calendar, Antipas of Valaam is commemorated on January 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 23 of the civil calendar.
