Markianos the Presbyter

St. Markianos, priest and steward of the Great Church of Constantinople.

St. Markianos was a priest of Constantinople in the fifth century, born of a noble family, who spent his wealth on the poor and on the building of churches, among them the church of St. Anastasia. He was made steward of the Great Church.

Tradition relates that he gave even his own clothing to the needy. He reposed in peace and is commemorated on January 10.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Markianos the Presbyter is commemorated on January 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on January 23 of the civil calendar.
