Hieromartyr Apollinarios, Bishop of Ravenna, disciple of the Apostle Peter.
St. Apollinarios was, according to tradition, a disciple of the Apostle Peter who was sent to Ravenna in Italy as its first bishop. He preached Christ there for many years, enduring repeated persecution and exile.
He died from the beatings of the pagans and is honored as a hieromartyr and patron of Ravenna.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Apollinarios of Ravenna is commemorated on July 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 5 of the civil calendar.
