Holy Martyr Vitalis of Ravenna.
St. Vitalis was a Christian of Milan who, according to tradition, encouraged a martyr at Ravenna and was himself arrested. He was tortured and buried alive for his confession of Christ.
He is honored as a martyr of Ravenna, where a great church bears his name.

On the New Calendar, Vitalis of Ravenna is commemorated on July 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 5 of the civil calendar.
