The Holy Martyrs put to death by the Bulgarians in the ninth century.
These martyrs were Christian soldiers and captives of the Byzantine army who fell into the hands of the pagan Bulgarians in the early ninth century, in the time of Emperor Nikephoros. Refusing to renounce Christ, they were put to death.
The Church keeps their common memory as confessors of the faith.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Martyrs Slain by the Bulgarians is commemorated on July 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 5 of the civil calendar.
