Holy Prophet Ezekiel.
The Holy Prophet Ezekiel was a priest of Israel carried into the Babylonian captivity in the sixth century before Christ. By the river Chebar he beheld the awesome vision of the glory of the Lord upon the chariot of the cherubim, and he prophesied to the exiles both judgment and consolation, including the vision of the dry bones brought to life, a foreshadowing of the resurrection.
The Church reads his prophecy of the shut gate as a figure of the Ever-Virgin Theotokos. He is commemorated on July 23.
