  Ezekiel the Prophet

  Prophet, Ιεζεκιήλ

  The Holy Prophet Ezekiel was a priest of Israel carried into the Babylonian captivity in the sixth century before Christ. By the river Chebar he beheld the awesome vision of the glory of the Lord upon the chariot of the cherubim, and he prophesied to the exiles both judgment and consolation, including the vision of the dry bones brought to life, a foreshadowing of the resurrection.

• Pelagia of Tinos

  Holy Woman, Πελαγία η Τηνία

  St. Pelagia was a nun of the Kechrovouni convent on the island of Tinos. In 1822 the Theotokos appeared to her in a vision and directed her to the place where the icon of the Annunciation lay buried; the icon was found in 1823 and the great church of the Evangelistria was built there.

• Apollinarios of Ravenna

  Hierarch, Απολλινάριος Ραβέννης

  St. Apollinarios was, according to tradition, a disciple of the Apostle Peter who was sent to Ravenna in Italy as its first bishop. He preached Christ there for many years, enduring repeated persecution and exile.

• Anna of Leukadion

  Holy Woman, Άννα η εν τω Λευκαδίω

  St. Anna of Leukadion was a pious woman of Constantinople who, according to tradition, left the world after being widowed and lived in asceticism in the district of Leukadion.

• Vitalis of Ravenna

  Martyr, Βιτάλιος

  St. Vitalis was a Christian of Milan who, according to tradition, encouraged a martyr at Ravenna and was himself arrested. He was tortured and buried alive for his confession of Christ.

• Martyrs Slain by the Bulgarians

  Martyr, Μάρτυρες οι υπό Βουλγάρων

  These martyrs were Christian soldiers and captives of the Byzantine army who fell into the hands of the pagan Bulgarians in the early ninth century, in the time of Emperor Nikephoros. Refusing to renounce Christ, they were put to death.
