Aquila the Apostle

Holy Apostle Aquila.

St. Aquila, numbered among the Seventy Apostles, was a Jewish tentmaker who with his wife Priscilla received St. Paul into their home at Corinth and shared both his trade and his labors for the Gospel. The couple are mentioned with affection in the Scriptures, and their house served as a gathering place for the Church.

According to tradition Aquila preached the Gospel and was made a bishop, ending his life in martyrdom. He is commemorated on July 14.

On the New Calendar, Aquila the Apostle is commemorated on July 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 27 of the civil calendar.
