Venerable Nikodemos the Hagiorite, teacher of the Church and compiler of the Philokalia.
St. Nikodemos was born on the island of Naxos in 1749 and became a monk on Mount Athos. A man of vast learning and deep prayer, he edited the Philokalia together with St. Makarios of Corinth and wrote many works of spiritual guidance, including the Synaxarion of the saints.
He reposed in 1809 and was glorified in 1955. He is honored as a teacher of the whole Orthodox Church.

On the New Calendar, Nikodemos the Hagiorite is commemorated on July 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 27 of the civil calendar.
