Holy New Martyr Argyre of Prousa, who died in prison in Constantinople for refusing to deny Christ.
Argyre was born in Prousa in Bithynia and was married young. A Turkish neighbour who desired her, and was refused, accused her falsely of having promised to embrace Islam, and she was brought to trial.
She steadfastly confessed Christ and was imprisoned in Constantinople, where after many years of hardship she died in her chains in the eighteenth century. Her relics were later found incorrupt and are venerated by the faithful.
