Theodora of Thessalonica

Venerable Theodora of Thessalonica, nun and wonderworker whose relics streamed myrrh.

Theodora was born on the island of Aegina in the ninth century and married there; fleeing Arab raids, the family settled in Thessalonica. After the death of her husband she entered the convent of Saint Stephen in that city, where her own daughter later became abbess.

She lived in great humility and obedience for many years and reposed in peace. Her relics were found fragrant and myrrh-streaming and have worked many healings.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theodora of Thessalonica is commemorated on April 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 18 of the civil calendar.
