Theodora and Didymus of Alexandria

Holy Martyrs Theodora the Virgin and Didymus the Soldier of Alexandria.

Theodora, a Christian maiden of Alexandria, refused to sacrifice to idols and was condemned to a house of shame. The soldier Didymus, himself a Christian, entered in disguise, exchanged clothes with her and let her escape.

When the deception was discovered Didymus was sentenced to death, and Theodora came forward to share his fate. Both were beheaded at the beginning of the fourth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theodora and Didymus of Alexandria is commemorated on April 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 18 of the civil calendar.
