Panagiotis of Jerusalem

Holy New Martyr Panagiotis, who was martyred in Jerusalem.

Panagiotis was a young Christian who, according to the synaxaria, was slandered before the Ottoman authorities in Jerusalem and pressed to renounce his faith. He refused to deny Christ and was beheaded in the Holy City in the early nineteenth century.

He is numbered among the new martyrs of the Ottoman period.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Panagiotis of Jerusalem is commemorated on April 5. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 18 of the civil calendar.
