Asteios of Dyrrachium

Hieromartyr Asteios, Bishop of Dyrrachium.

St. Asteios was Bishop of Dyrrachium (Durres) in the reign of Trajan. Tradition relates that he was smeared with honey and hung in the sun to be tormented by insects for refusing to sacrifice to idols.

He died in his sufferings and is honored as a hieromartyr and patron of Durres.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Asteios of Dyrrachium is commemorated on July 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 19 of the civil calendar.
