Asterios the Senator

Holy Martyr Asterios the Senator, who suffered at Caesarea in Palestine.

Saint Asterios was a Roman senator who, tradition relates, reverently buried the body of the martyr Marinos at Caesarea in Palestine. For this act of faith he was himself arrested and beheaded in the third century.

He is honoured among the martyrs of Caesarea.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Asterios the Senator is commemorated on August 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 20 of the civil calendar.
