Narkissos Patriarch of Jerusalem

Saint Narkissos, Patriarch of Jerusalem and wonderworker.

Saint Narkissos was bishop of Jerusalem at the end of the second century. Tradition relates that he lived to a very great age, withdrew for a time into the desert after being slandered, and returned to his see to serve alongside Saint Alexander.

He is remembered for a miracle in which water drawn for the Paschal vigil was changed into oil for the lamps.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Narkissos Patriarch of Jerusalem is commemorated on August 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 20 of the civil calendar.
