Dometios the Persian

Holy Martyr Dometius the Persian.

St. Dometios was a Persian of the fourth century who came to faith in Christ and left his homeland for the regions of Syria and Mesopotamia, where he received the monastic tonsure and later lived in ascetic solitude, drawing many who sought healing and counsel through his prayers.

In the reign of Julian the Apostate he was put to death for Christ, stoned, according to tradition, together with two disciples. He is commemorated on August 7.

On the New Calendar, Dometios the Persian is commemorated on August 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 20 of the civil calendar.
