Athanasios the Magician

Holy Martyr Athanasios, the sorcerer who was converted at the martyrdom of Saint George.

Athanasios was a sorcerer summoned by the emperor to overcome the Great Martyr George by poison. When the poison did George no harm, Athanasios fell at his feet and confessed Christ.

He was beheaded at once and received the crown of martyrdom.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Athanasios the Magician is commemorated on April 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 6 of the civil calendar.
