Polychronia the Martyr

Holy Martyr Polychronia, mother of the Great Martyr George.

Polychronia, according to tradition, was the mother of the Great Martyr George, a Christian of Palestine who raised her son in the faith after his father's death.

The Greek synaxaria commemorate her with her son, relating that she too suffered for Christ in the persecution of Diocletian.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Polychronia the Martyr is commemorated on April 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 6 of the civil calendar.
