Blandina and the Martyrs of Lyon

Holy Martyrs Sanctus, Maturus, Attalus and Blandina of Lyon in Gaul.

Sts. Sanctus, Maturus, Attalus and Blandina were among the Christians of Lyon in Gaul who suffered in the persecution of 177. Blandina, a slave girl, endured every torment with such courage that she strengthened all the others, and was the last to die.

Their martyrdom is described in a letter preserved by Eusebius.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Blandina and the Martyrs of Lyon is commemorated on July 25. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 7 of the civil calendar.
