Saint Callinicus of Cernica, Bishop of Ramnic, ascetic and builder of churches in Romania.
Callinicus was born in Bucharest in 1787 and became a monk at the Cernica Monastery, whose abbot he was for many years, renowned for fasting, prayer and charity. He was later made Bishop of Ramnic, where he rebuilt churches and founded schools.
He returned to Cernica at the end of his life and reposed in 1868. He is one of the most beloved saints of the Romanian Church.
