  Antipas of Pergamon

  Martyr, Αντίπας

  St. Antipas was Bishop of Pergamon in Asia Minor in the first century, a disciple of the Apostle John. He is named in the Book of Revelation, where the Lord Himself calls him my faithful witness, slain among you where Satan dwells. Tradition relates that he was put to death by the pagans of Pergamon for refusing to honor their idols.

  Holy Woman, Τρυφαίνη και Ματρώνα

  Tryphaena and Matrona are listed together in the Greek synaxaria as venerable women who reposed in peace. Little has been preserved of their lives beyond their names and the memory of their holiness.

• Pharmuthios the Anchorite

  Venerable, Φαρμούθιος

  Pharmuthios lived as an anchorite in the Egyptian desert in the fourth century. Tradition relates that he was the elder who brought bread, miraculously supplied, to the hermit John who lived in a dry well.

• George of the Chrysostom Monastery

  Venerable, Γεώργιος ο εν Κύπρω

  George was a Cypriot ascetic of the eleventh century who founded the Monastery of Saint John Chrysostom on the slopes of the Pentadaktylos range near Koutsovendis. He gathered a community there and guided it in the monastic life.

• Barsanuphius of Tver

  Hierarch, Βαρσανούφιος Τβερ

  Barsanuphius was born in Serpukhov in the fifteenth century and as a youth was captured by the Crimean Tatars, among whom he learned their language while remaining steadfast in the faith. Ransomed by his father, he became a monk.

• Callinicus of Cernica

  Hierarch, Καλλίνικος ο εκ Ρουμανίας

  Callinicus was born in Bucharest in 1787 and became a monk at the Cernica Monastery, whose abbot he was for many years, renowned for fasting, prayer and charity. He was later made Bishop of Ramnic, where he rebuilt churches and founded schools.

• Processus and Martinian

  Martyr, Πρόκεσσος και Μαρτινιανός

  Processus and Martinian were, according to tradition, guards of the Mamertine prison in Rome who came to faith through the preaching of the Apostles Peter and Paul, whom they held in custody. They were baptized by the apostles.
