Demetrios of Chios

New Martyr Demetrios of Chios, martyred in Constantinople.

St. Demetrios was born in Chios and worked in Constantinople. Tradition relates that he was falsely accused of promising to become a Muslim, and that refusing to do so he was beheaded in 1802.

He is commemorated on January 29.

On the New Calendar, Demetrios of Chios is commemorated on January 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 11 of the civil calendar.
