Diomedes the Physician

Holy Martyr Diomedes the Unmercenary Physician of Tarsus.

Saint Diomedes was a physician from Tarsus in Cilicia who healed both bodies and souls, bringing many to Christ. He settled in Nicaea, where he was arrested under Diocletian and died on the way to trial.

Tradition relates that the soldiers who beheaded his body were struck blind and healed only when they returned his head to it.

On the New Calendar, Diomedes the Physician is commemorated on August 16. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 29 of the civil calendar.
