Dionysius of Glushitsa

Venerable Dionysius, Abbot of Glushitsa in Vologda, ascetic and iconographer of the Russian north.

Saint Dionysius of Glushitsa was a fifteenth-century Russian monastic who founded several monasteries in the forests of Vologda, in the region known as the Northern Thebaid. He was renowned as a strict ascetic, a painter of icons and a father to many disciples, and he reposed in 1437.
