Venerable Justin Popovich, Serbian theologian and confessor of the twentieth century, spiritual father of the Chelije monastery.
Saint Justin Popovich (1894-1979) was a Serbian priest-monk, professor of dogmatic theology and one of the great Orthodox theologians of the twentieth century. Removed from the university by the communist authorities, he spent his last decades confined to the women's monastery of Chelije near Valjevo, where he wrote his multi-volume Lives of the Saints and many theological works.
He was glorified by the Serbian Orthodox Church in 2010. His memory is kept on 1 June, the day of his repose according to the Julian reckoning, and he is honoured throughout the Orthodox world as a confessor and teacher.
