Ephraim, Bishop of Cherson

Holy Hieromartyrs and Bishops of Cherson.

St. Ephraim was one of the holy bishops sent in the early fourth century to preach the Gospel in Cherson on the Black Sea, a region still in the grip of paganism. Together with his fellow hieromartyr bishops of Cherson, he labored to plant the faith among a hostile people, and sealed his preaching with his blood.

The Church remembers these missionary bishops together as founders of the Church in that land, their sacrifice bearing fruit in generations of believers. St. Ephraim is commemorated on March 7.
