Lavrentios of Salamis

Venerable Lavrentios, founder of the Monastery of Phaneromeni on Salamis.

St. Lavrentios was born in Megara in the seventeenth century, a married man and father who, after a vision of the Mother of God, crossed to the island of Salamis and found her ancient icon buried in a ruined church. There he founded the monastery of the Panagia Phaneromeni, which remains a place of pilgrimage.

He was tonsured a monk and reposed in peace in 1707. His memory is kept on March 7.

On the New Calendar, Lavrentios of Salamis is commemorated on March 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 20 of the civil calendar.
