Hieromartyrs Basileus, Eugenios, Agathodoros, Elpidios, Kapiton and Aitherios, bishops of Cherson.
The hieromartyrs of Cherson were bishops sent in the fourth century by the Patriarch of Jerusalem to preach the Gospel in Cherson in the Crimea, together with St. Ephraim. Basileus, Eugenios, Agathodoros, Elpidios, Kapiton and Aitherios labored there one after another among the pagans of the region, and most of them were put to death by the unbelievers.
Tradition relates that St. Kapiton confirmed the faith before the people by passing unharmed through a fiery furnace. The Church honors the seven bishops of Cherson together on March 7.
