  Ephraim, Bishop of Cherson

  Hierarch, Εφραίμ

  St. Ephraim was one of the holy bishops sent in the early fourth century to preach the Gospel in Cherson on the Black Sea, a region still in the grip of paganism. Together with his fellow hieromartyr bishops of Cherson, he labored to plant the faith among a hostile people, and sealed his preaching with his blood.

• Hieromartyrs of Cherson

  Hierarch, Ιερομάρτυρες Χερσώνος

  The hieromartyrs of Cherson were bishops sent in the fourth century by the Patriarch of Jerusalem to preach the Gospel in Cherson in the Crimea, together with St. Ephraim. Basileus, Eugenios, Agathodoros, Elpidios, Kapiton and Aitherios labored there one after another among the pagans of the region, and most of them were put to death by the unbelievers.

• Paul the Simple

  St. Paul the Simple was a farmer of Egypt in the fourth century who, at the age of sixty, left his unfaithful wife and went into the desert to become a disciple of St. Anthony the Great. Anthony tested his patience with many hard tasks, and Paul obeyed everything with such simplicity and humility that he soon received the gift of casting out demons.

• Ephraim of Antioch

  Hierarch, Εφραίμ Αντιοχείας

  St. Ephraim was a civil governor of the East who, after helping to rebuild Antioch following a great earthquake, was chosen Patriarch of that city in the sixth century. He defended the doctrine of the Council of Chalcedon against the Monophysites and wrote many works in defense of the Orthodox faith.

• Lavrentios of Salamis

  Venerable, Λαυρέντιος

  St. Lavrentios was born in Megara in the seventeenth century, a married man and father who, after a vision of the Mother of God, crossed to the island of Salamis and found her ancient icon buried in a ruined church. There he founded the monastery of the Panagia Phaneromeni, which remains a place of pilgrimage.

• Arkadios and Nestor of Trimythous

  Hierarch, Αρκάδιος και Νέστωρ

  Sts. Arkadios and Nestor were bishops of Trimythous in Cyprus, the see later made famous by St. Spyridon. Tradition relates that they lived in the early centuries of the Church on the island and shepherded their flocks in holiness.

• Aimilianos of Rome

  Martyr, Αιμιλιανός ο Ρωμαίος

  St. Aimilianos was a Christian of Rome, remembered in the Greek synaxaria together with Sts. Jacob and Marianos. Tradition relates that they confessed Christ during the persecutions and were put to death for their faith.
