Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council

Commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council at Chalcedon.

The Fourth Ecumenical Council met at Chalcedon in 451 and confirmed the Orthodox faith that Christ is one Person in two natures, divine and human. Its Fathers are commemorated on the Sunday between July 13 and 19 together with the Fathers of the first six Councils.

The Church honors them as defenders of the true faith against heresy.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council is commemorated on July 19. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 1 of the civil calendar.
