Fathers of the Second Ecumenical Council

Commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the Second Ecumenical Council at Constantinople.

The Second Ecumenical Council was convened at Constantinople in 381 under the Emperor Theodosius the Great. Led by Saints Meletios of Antioch, Gregory the Theologian and Gregory of Nyssa, the Fathers condemned the heresy of Macedonius against the Holy Spirit and completed the Creed.

The Church keeps their memory on May 22.

On the New Calendar, Fathers of the Second Ecumenical Council is commemorated on May 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 4 of the civil calendar.
