Paul the Peloponnesian

Venerable Martyr Paul of Aroania, an Athonite monk beheaded at Tripolis.

Paul was born in Sopoto of Arcadia and, having once denied Christ under duress, repented and became a monk on Mount Athos. Prepared for confession by the fathers of the Holy Mountain, he returned to the Peloponnese.

He confessed Christ before the pasha of Tripolis and was beheaded in 1818.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Paul the Peloponnesian is commemorated on May 22. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 4 of the civil calendar.
