  Basiliskos

  Martyr, Βασιλίσκος

  The Holy Martyr Basiliskos suffered for Christ in Pontus at the beginning of the fourth century, during the persecutions of the pagan emperors. Tradition remembers him as a kinsman of the Great Martyr Theodore the Recruit and a soldier like him. Refusing to sacrifice to the idols, he endured imprisonment and cruel treatment, and was beheaded at Comana, faithful to the end.

  The Second Ecumenical Council was convened at Constantinople in 381 under the Emperor Theodosius the Great. Led by Saints Meletios of Antioch, Gregory the Theologian and Gregory of Nyssa, the Fathers condemned the heresy of Macedonius against the Holy Spirit and completed the Creed.

  Paul was born in Sopoto of Arcadia and, having once denied Christ under duress, repented and became a monk on Mount Athos. Prepared for confession by the fathers of the Holy Mountain, he returned to the Peloponnese.
