Fathers of the Sixth Ecumenical Council

Commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the Sixth Ecumenical Council in Constantinople.

The Sixth Ecumenical Council met in Constantinople in 680 and 681 under the emperor Constantine IV. It condemned the Monothelite heresy, which taught that Christ had only one will, and confirmed that He has two natural wills and two energies, divine and human, without division or confusion.

The Holy Fathers of the Council are commemorated on September 14.

On the New Calendar, Fathers of the Sixth Ecumenical Council is commemorated on September 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 27 of the civil calendar.
