George of Gergeri and the Twelve New Martyrs

Holy New Martyrs George the Presbyter and the twelve with him at Gergeri in Crete.

George, a priest of the village of Gergeri in Crete, and twelve of his fellow villagers were put to death by the Turks for their faith during the years of Ottoman rule.

They are honoured together by the Church of Crete.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, George of Gergeri and the Twelve New Martyrs is commemorated on April 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 9 of the civil calendar.
