Holy Queen Tamara of Georgia, under whom the Georgian kingdom reached its golden age.
Tamara reigned over Georgia from 1184 to 1213, a time of peace, learning and church-building remembered as the golden age of the kingdom. She was renowned for her piety, her justice and her generosity to monasteries and the poor.
She reposed in 1213 and is honoured by the Georgian Church, which keeps her memory also on the first of May.

On the New Calendar, Tamara the Queen is commemorated on April 26. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 9 of the civil calendar.
